• Digital Stewardship & AI Integrations

    For all of us

    Introducing the 4D Framework

    Digital Stewardship

We are developing a framework for AI integration based on three interrelated practices: discernment, accompaniment, and attunement. Together, these practices provide a pathway for human services organizations to integrate AI tools with intention, values and sustainability in mind.

    Digital Discernment

A process for considering which AI capabilities might address specific original challenges and opportunities, and to evaluate potential design solutions within the context of values, constraints, and stakeholder needs.

    Digital Accompaniment

Digital accompaniment allows for conversation and consultation of all stakeholders including staff, clients and community for reflecting on how digital tools can support their work, holding space for thoughtful, values-aligned choices rather than prescribing quick fixes.Investing time to make space for planning, reflection and iteration on digital possibilities is important to the digital stewardship process.

    Digital Attunement

Digital attunement means practicing a cultivating awareness, sensitivity, and responsiveness to how people experience and interact with digital technologies. Co-design, inclusive design or participatory design are all variants of the attunement frame, calling for key stakeholders to meaningfully engage in the design and development of products that use AI. responding to the opportunities specific to the human services sector. The northstar is that pilots built by co-design teams, can be tested, evaluated, iterated and documented in ways that can be flexibly applied by different organizations.
